Why I Started Kaizly
One parent's journey to create a smarter, more meaningful summer, by building the tool we all wish we had.
Jim Carlson
Co-Founder & CEO

Every summer, my wife and I try to strike the impossible balance.
We want our three kids, who span kindergarten through fifth grade, to get the downtime they need after a full year of school, sports, dance, and scouts. But we also want them to stay engaged, keep their skills sharp, and grow in ways that help them become confident, capable people. We've always believed that summer should be both a break and a time of growth.
But let's be real. It's hard.
Our kids thrive in structured environments. When they are left without a plan, boredom creeps in. That leads to unproductive habits or back-and-forths about what they should be doing. We've paid for tutors, neighborhood helpers, camps, and workbooks. They've all helped. But every option has required serious logistics, coordination, and a kind of mental project management that is exhausting on top of our jobs. Most of all, none of it felt customized to each of our kids' strengths, struggles, and interests.
We always felt like we were close to something that worked, but not quite there.
A Mission That Runs Deep
What started as a plan for my own kids quickly turned into something more.
I wanted each of them to have a summer that helped them balance rest and progress. I wanted them to build confidence by working toward something meaningful. Not just a collection of tasks, but a goal they could achieve and look back on with pride.
So I started researching learning frameworks, child development, and how emotional growth and academic skills could come together in a more thoughtful way. I used the same AI tools I had adopted in my own work to create customized, engaging, growth-oriented summer plans. The first one I built for my daughter made it clear. I was onto something. And I knew other parents felt the same need.
That's when Kaizly was born.
From My Desk to Your Family
Kaizly is more than a product. It is a mission.
It is built on the belief that every child deserves a summer that helps them grow in skills, in confidence, and in self-understanding. And every parent deserves tools that make that possible without having to become a logistics coordinator, tutor, and camp director rolled into one.
Kaizly is a play on the word Kaizen, a Japanese philosophy of continuous improvement. That mindset shapes how I live my life and how I parent. Every experience is an opportunity to grow. That's what I want Kaizly to be for you and your family: a resource that supports continuous learning in a way that is customizable, research-informed, emotionally intelligent, and actually doable.
This Is for You
Because this is not really my story. It is yours.
You are the hero in your child's journey. You are the one balancing so much. And you deserve tools that don't just help your kids, they help you.
That is why I built Kaizly. Not to replace you. Not to take over. But to give you something that makes summer feel a little less overwhelming and a lot more purposeful. We are just getting started. We are listening. We are building. And we are here to help.
If you ever have ideas or feedback, I'd love to hear them.
Here's to the parents and kids who are on a mission to grow every day.
Let's keep getting better together.
